Benevolence Application
The Benevolent Fund exists to help meet short-term needs, primarily of members and regular attenders of Cornerstone Community Church, without creating longer-term dependencies.
Cornerstone will pay verified creditors directly for verifiable expenses rather than give money to applicants. The best verifiable expenses include rent/mortgage, necessary utility bills (electric, gas, water, but not cable or credit cards), and perhaps car repairs. The person with a need must present the bill(s) to Cornerstone, and Cornerstone will issue checks directly to the creditor (the creditor will be called to verify identity and to make sure they will accept payment from a third party). Gift cards to local businesses may be provided as necessary.
Priority will be given first to members, then to those serving in our ministries, then to regular attenders. Help will not generally be given to people who are not regularly a part of Cornerstone —we would expect such persons to seek help in their own churches.
Financial counseling will be offered to people receiving assistance from the Benevolent Fund, and required of anyone receiving assistance for the second time.
A decision will be made and communicated to the applicant within one week. If we cannot help with your specific request, we can link you with a financial counselor and recommend other community resources.
